The Maintenance Fallacy
Keith,
I'm taking the liberty of including the Notes audience in this email, as they will appreciate how articulately you've summarized the maintenance issues and the maintenance fallacy.
We're running into the maintenance fallacy in our autism work now. It's assumed that the natural or subsequent educational environment will maintain the skills we're teaching the preschool autistic kids. But one of our gang, Nic Weatherly, did a dissertation whose results suggested otherwise, even for kids who stayed in our classroom. So now another student, Tialha Nover, is doing an OBM project to facilitate follow-up maintenance training to ensure that the kids keep their hard-learned skills.

Should We Celebrate Skinner's 100th Birthday at ABA?
Should We Celebrate Skinner's 100th Birthday at ABA?
Skinner’s 100th birthday is coming up and ABA is planning no party, in part, for fear that we would be (or be seen as) deifying the man. My view is that it’s OK to deify Skinner, because Skinner is god. We are Skinnerian’s; don’t give me that pathetic, pedantic, no I’m a “behavior analyst” not a “Skinnerian” crap.
Steven Jay Gould and his fellow Darwinians (aka, evolutionists) were not so faint of heart; they made a monstrous to do about Darwin’s 150th birthday. And, for us to ignore Skinner’s 100th strikes me as the ultimate dissing of the man and his legacy.
Stumbled upon your guide
Hello Dr. Malott,
I stumbled upon your guide which helps undergraduates get information and getting into graduates school that have ABA in them. I want to thank you because for the first time I have actually received some helpful advice and guidance. I really don't like computers, which I know is a bad thing for my generation, so it's hard for me to find information about grad school. My professors just tell me to look up schools on the computer or go to a bookstore. In your guide you actually listed names of schools and other websites that would help. Not only was your paper informational, but also very warm, and for that I'd like to thank you.
Very Gratefully Your,
Jennifer Skadden
I wanted to thank you for your textbook
Dear Dr. Malott,
My name is Vanessa Villa and I have just completed a course on behavior analysis at Florida International University. I wanted to thank you for your textbook. It was the most interesting, easy-to-read and understand text I've ever had to read for a course and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Sincerely,
Vanessa Villa
ABA Millionaires
Shocking, a little embarrassing, and a little gratifying (value confirming, which is also embarrassing) but true: There are many millionaires in ABA. Maybe not too exciting because, the American middle-class is now full of millionaires. And, of course a million ain’t what it used to be, but it’s still enough.
